I had the absolute privilege of meeting Lucas when he was only a few weeks old. In my role as a photographer I've seen many newborn babies, but Lucas was so very very special. It's always incredible to capture images of a family as they welcome their child into the world, but when it is a friends child, they have a special place in my heart. Lucas, even more so. I've never met a baby so young who was so alert, so completely enthralled by everything going on around him and so completely transfixed by his mum and dad's gaze. My role was simply to try and capture the essence of little Lucas in the images I took. There was no effort required to capture that wonderful little personality. He was wide awake and staring at me as intently as he had been all day, and you just knew that little boy was taking in every second of what was going on. To hold little Lucas knowing the heartbreak you were going through and what he was facing was one of the hardest things I've ever done but likewise one of the biggest honours of my life. He is and was utterly perfect, his little face, his beautiful big eyes, his perfect fingers and his little webbed toes will be etched on my mind forever. Clair and Kez, my heart breaks for the loss of little Lucas, but to me, you are and always will be the beautiful family I photographed - a family of three, forever, even though Lucas had to leave you far too soon. No words can mend the heartbreak or express the complete sorrow we feel for you, but Lucas' memory will live on in everyone who was lucky enough to meet your beautiful son. All my love, rest in peace precious boy, your loss will be felt forever. Caroline, Peter and Theodore. xxxxx
