Lucas Sidney Alleebux was born on 21 September, 2015 making us the proudest parents in the world. He was perfect in every way and everything we could of dreamed of.
At 3 weeks old we noticed that Lucas could not move the left side of his face to which we took him to hospital for further investigation. At the time it was thought he had developed a facial palsy due to inflammation of the nerve. After a precautionary MRI scan at 4 weeks old, our world came crashing down as we were informed that a tumour had been found in his brain.
Later that week Lucas had a biopsy, and at 5 weeks old we received the devastating news that he had an Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid (ATRT) tumour and it was terminal. Lucas was given weeks to live.
This particular tumour is extremely rare and usually diagnosed in childhood. ATRT was only recognised as an entity in 1996 so very little is known about it, and research is ongoing to identify protocols for treatment.
As his parents, we chose to care for Lucas in his final weeks at home with support from the Palliative Care Team. We tried our best to build ever lasting memories in the short time we had with our precious son, but unfortunately Lucas lost his battle against this dreadful illness on Monday, 9 November 2015.
He is much loved and will always be remembered by all his friends and family.
We have set up this webpage as a tribute to Lucas where people can share their photos, thoughts and memories.
We have also linked this page to a charity very close to our hearts 'Children with Cancer' who help children like Lucas, and have links to Great Ormond Street Hospital where he was treated.
Lucas was laid to rest at Chiltern Burial Woods on Friday, 20 November (see timeline for details).
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Whittington Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and all our family and friends for their help and support to Lucas and ourselves during a very difficult period.
